PM Narendra Modi on Semiconductors: From Patents to Made-in-India Chips, India’s Roadmap to Global Hub

At the Semicon India 2025 Conference in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India’s ambitious roadmap to become a global semiconductor hub. Calling chips the “digital diamonds of the 21st century,” he urged Indian firms to focus on patents and IPR to secure leadership in the global market. Modi highlighted over $18 billion investments across 10 semiconductor projects, the launch of the ‘Vikram’ 32-bit homegrown processor, and plans for commercial chip production by 2025. With support from PLI and DLI schemes, single-window clearances, and semiconductor parks, India aims to shift from a consumer to a full-stack semiconductor leader.
