My experiences of life: How I entered the digital world

I still remember the humming sound of the old CPUs in that narrow cybercafé. The room smelled of warm plastic and dust, and the owner kept glancing at the clock because every minute meant money. They charged by the hour, and I watched the timer like it was a heartbeat.

That was where I first stepped into the digital world.

I created my Orkut account with trembling excitement, carefully choosing a username that sounded important. The internet felt mysterious then — like a giant city I had just discovered. I didn’t know where to go, but I knew I wanted to stay.

A few years later, Facebook arrived like a wave. Everyone was talking about it. Once again, I found myself in the same cybercafé chair, logging into something new, something bigger. My online world grew, but my access was still measured in ticking minutes and borrowed time.

Years passed. Technology moved forward, and so did I. The day I bought my first smartphone with internet access felt like freedom in my pocket. No more hourly charges, no more waiting. Facebook, Messenger, and other social platforms became part of my daily rhythm. The digital world was no longer a place I visited — it was a place I lived in.

Then came the night that changed everything.

My mother fell seriously ill and was admitted to the ICU. For seven days, I sat on a cold staircase beside that ward. Time slowed down. The air smelled of antiseptic and worry. I scrolled through Facebook endlessly, searching for distraction, for relief, for anything to silence the fear in my mind.

But scrolling could not hold me forever. I grew restless. Empty.

One late night, instead of scrolling, I searched. One link led to another. I began reading, learning, and experimenting. I discovered how the digital world actually worked — not just as a user, but as a creator, a learner, a participant.

Those long hours on the staircase became my classroom.

Painful days turned into meaningful ones. Uncertainty turned into curiosity. And slowly, I realised something simple but powerful:

Sometimes life pushes you into a corner so you can discover a new direction.

My journey into the digital world did not begin with technology.

It began with time, struggle, and the decision to use both differently.

That is how I learned to turn a problem into an opportunity.
